ISM is a research & development, equipment design and process consulting firm, specializing in high-intensity ultrasonic technology for liquid treatment. Our mission is to help businesses optimize their ultrasound-assisted processes and implement them in commercial-scale production.

What is ISM?

ISM is a research & development, equipment design and process consulting firm, specializing in high-power ultrasonic technology for liquid treatment. ISM offers bench and commercial-scale ultrasonic liquid processors, also called ultrasonic homogenizers, ultrasonic mixers, sonochemical reactors or ultrasonic wet milling systems, able to provide unprecedented processing rates and product quality. Application examples include the production of nanoemulsions, liposomes, nanocrystals and wax nanoparticles for cannabis, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, ink, paint, coating, wood treatment, nanocomposite, pesticide, and fuel industries. In addition, we are actively involved in plant oil extraction, liquid degassing, cell disruption, polymer and epoxy processing, and more.

Our Mission

Industrial Sonomechanics, LLC, (ISM) is a U.S.-based research & development, equipment design, and process consulting firm, specializing in high-intensity ultrasonic technology for liquid treatment by acoustic cavitation. Our patented Barbell Horn® Ultrasonic Technology (BHUT) allows generating extremely high ultrasonic amplitudes and cavitation intensities at any scale, making it possible to directly apply laboratory optimization results in an industrial production environment. Through our expertise and user-friendly equipment, we strive to help our customers optimize and scale up their processes. Our scientists and engineers provide comprehensive, rapid-response technical support and consulting services. ISM is engaged in continuous research & development in multiple applications of ultrasonic technology, which allows us to stay at the scientific forefront and help our customers achieve what their competitors cannot. We also make systematic publications of our research as peer-reviewed journal articles, blog posts, case studies, application reports, and e-books to inspire interest and promote an open-source approach to the science and engineering of high-intensity ultrasonic processing. ISM aims to provide a stable and creative work environment where our most important resource — our team members — are given opportunities for learning and career growth while focusing on what interests them the most.

An Active R&D Firm

ISM constantly conducts research and development, aimed at improving its ultrasonic technology and optimizing it for different applications. Our company is currently engaged in active research in multiple areas of ultrasonic technology application. Examples of our ongoing projects include:
  • Manufacturing of uniform nanoemulsions to make cannabis extracts and other bioactives (kratom, kava, mushroom extracts, CoQ10, piperine, etc.) water-compatible for increased bioavailability and faster onset of action.
  • Water extraction of oils and active pharmaceutical and nutraceutical ingredients by controlled cell disruption (lysis).
  • Investigating the effects of high-intensity ultrasound for degassing of liquids.
  • ISM is actively engaged in the development of an ultrasound-assisted hybrid electrochemical process and equipment for the efficient production of green hydrogen fuel with simultaneous valorization of low-cost biomass and other materials. This technology is projected to provide the following advantages over traditional water electrolysis that is currently used for hydrogen production: 1). Lower energy consumption, 2). No co-production of oxygen, carbon dioxide or other gasses, and 3). Simultaneous electro-oxidation of low-cost biomass and other materials, such as kraft lignin and glycerol, into value-added products.
