Petroleum-derived gasoline and diesel are currently the main forms of fuel for the transportation and logistics industry, despite the fact that their use depletes limited crude oil resources and harms human health and the environment. Biological fuels offer an attractive alternative, being renewable, biodegradable, nontoxic and environment-friendly sources of energy.

Industrial Sonomechanics (ISM) offers high-amplitude ultrasonic processors for the production of biological fuels. The processors are based on our patented Barbell Horn Ultrasonic Technology (BHUT), which makes it possible to tremendously intensify the biofuel manufacturing processes and guarantees reproducible and predictable results at any scale of operation.

Ultrasonic process intensification results from acoustic cavitation, which generates violently imploding vacuum bubbles, causing shock waves, micro-jets and strong shear forces, as well as extreme local temperatures and pressures. High ultrasonic amplitudes (75 microns or higher) are required to create acoustic cavitation of sufficient intensity for most processes.

Conventional high-power ultrasonic technology suffers from a major drawback: it can only provide high amplitudes on a small scale. Due to fundamental design limitations, this technology forces all large-scale processes to run at low amplitudes (below 25 microns). Conventional ultrasonic processors are, therefore, appropriate for studying high-amplitude processes in a laboratory, but not for implementing them in commercial production. ISM is currently the only company that offers high-amplitude industrial-scale ultrasonic processors. Our proprietary technology, BHUT, permits increasing the sizes of ultrasonic devices without sacrificing the amplitudes they provide. Bench-scale (BSP-1200) and industrial-scale (ISP-3000) ultrasonic processors are available, both of which are designed for continuous operation under production floor conditions.
